Bahasa Daerah Minahasa Nyaris Punah Didaerahnya Sendiri. Masyarakat kita sangat terbuka terhadap perkembangan dan kemajuan serta mudah beradaptasi sehingga lebih mudah menyerap budaya asing.
Budaya asing dianggap lebih modern. Kondisi ini membuat perhatian terhadap budaya sendiri sangat kurang, bahkan dianggap kuno. Padahal, kalau kita peduli dan mempelajari betul kekayaan budaya kita, termsuk bahasa daerah, nilainya sangat tinggi karena di negara lain tidak ada.
Kalau kita bicara bahasa daerah misalnya Tontemboan, Minahasa maka diluar komunitas Tontemboan tidak akan tahu apa yang dibicarakan. Sementara itu, kalau bicara bahasa Inggris atau Jepang atau Belanda atau Perancis, maka orang lain mungkin tahu. Bahkan untuk terjemahan saat ini lebih mudah dengan aplikaai google translate.
Pemerhati budaya Minahasa Irjen Pol (Purn) Dr Benny Joshua Mamoto SH,MH menilai bahasa daerah Minahasa saat ini nyaris punah jika tidak digalakan melalui sistim pendidikan muatan lokal.
